8/18/02 - Furring strips are done. Ready to put up the acoustic treatments. Pictured is a roll of Johns Manville Insulshield Black - a 1" thick roll fiberglass insulation product coated black. The IS Black will go on the lower wall and front wall. It is acoustically absorptive. Typically, the front wall and surfaces below ear level should be treated with an aborptive material. Above ear level will receive a reflective/diffusive material - polyester batting. You can also see the structure of the furring strips. The yellow areas around the recessed light fixtures and HVAC register are 1" thick ductboard. I decided to leave the ceiling untreated and will be stretching black fabric across it, but will not have any acoustic material behind the fabric. So, the ductboard, beging rigid, made for a good anchor source for the recessed trim and register cover.
